My Tendon

Knee

My Meniscus

Each knee has two menisci — C-shaped cartilage pads that cushion the joint and absorb shock when you walk, run, and turn.

What can go wrong

Meniscus tears happen from twisting with a planted foot, deep squatting, or age-related degeneration. Symptoms include pain along the joint line, swelling, catching, or a sensation of the knee locking. Many tears heal with rest and therapy; some require arthroscopic repair or partial meniscectomy.

Prevention

  • Build quad and hamstring strength
  • Avoid deep squats with heavy loads if predisposed
  • Warm up before pivoting sports
