Lower Leg
My Achilles
The Achilles tendon connects your calf muscles to your heel bone — the strongest tendon in your body.

What can go wrong
Achilles injuries range from tendinitis to partial and complete ruptures. Risk rises with sudden increases in activity, poor calf flexibility, and age. A ruptured Achilles often feels like being kicked in the back of the leg, followed by an inability to push off. Treatment can be surgical or non-operative depending on the tear and patient.
Prevention
- Gradual increases in running or jumping
- Daily calf stretching
- Proper footwear
- Eccentric calf-strengthening exercises
